The Great FLOOD of 2007 ! 2006 Fandango Photo Album
To All Floating Frogs! - 2005 Recap Letter I can’t wipe the smile off my face. I must have looked at the photo album 20 times – Forward us any photos not yet posted. Fandango started on Thursday night at Gruene Hall with rock-a-billy from Jesse Dayton, and did not stop rocking until Sunday. Next, Fandango participants ripped up links at Landa Park, then hit 19th hole at the “The Hoity Toity.” Later that evening, we took over the River Road Icehouse and jammed to a local Reggie Rock band named 11 Finger Charlie. Man, could these guy jam! I even heard one Rastafarian ask Clifford if he wanted some Ganja! A few made it to Cowboy’s in San Antonio and stayed until after the liquor stores closed, so those of you who enjoyed the margarita shots from the bug sprayers, appreciate the lengths and creativity it took to get 2 bottles of tequila at 3AM…. Saturday it was time to Fandango. The pictures tell a thousand words. Over 100 tubers enjoyed a warm day, great company, and cold refreshments. Near the end, a rain shower cooled us off, then blessed us with a rainbow. Quote of the Trip - “Hey, Is that poison ivy?” – Several stumbled upon the dreaded plant on our hike to get to the water. It’s amazing how quickly you make friends on the river with a bug sprayer. A cute girl won't swim across the river to ask for a drink from a beer can. But, she will be swept into the swirling VORTEX that is Fandango after tasting the bug juice !!! As usual, Big John and his crew of understudies did an outstanding job at the BBQ. That delicious scent allowed us to invite many new friends from the river up the hill to the BBQ. Stopping for Half-Time on the float to feast on BBQ and refill our coolers was one of the greatest enhancements to Fandango this year…. The evening was capped off listening to Larry Joe Taylor at the River Road Icehouse. His unique brand of Coastal music fit right in with our free spirited evening. Heck, any band that brings out a tuba for the final set has to be special. Personally, I was sad to see the sun rise on Sunday. As always, we all met over at El Nopalito for a Mexican breakfast and to recap the days and evenings events, well actually trying to remember what the heck we all did. Several of us were not quite ready to give up and go back to reality, so we rushed back to Bubba’s Big Deck & Biker Bar to play a little pool, readjust our blood alcohol level, and enjoy the river. Bubba’s is truly a special place that everyone should experience. I was grinning because it reminds me of the mutant cantina bar on Star Wars! Wow, that place has the best view on the river, some very unusual sights, wild happenings, and the coolest inhabitants you can imagine! Also, there is no doubt; Bubba’s has the best jukebox I’ve ever heard. Next time you’re in town, you must stop in for a beer at Bubba's. In closing, I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped put on the most legendary Fandango yet. I would like to thank Amigo Mel Polk for another outstanding float trip - (Amigo Mel's & River Road Ice House). It is great doing business with such professionals and great guys. Again, thank you so much for making this Fandango the best yet. Our great event had one thing missing, our friend Greg Patty. Greg's magnetic personality and relentless pursuit fun and adventure is something I will never forget and will continue to be inspired by. We were able to donate $130 to Greg’s daughter Emmah’s scholarship fund. Greg, we all miss you and thank you for elevating this event with your energy and spirit.
